Julie Beckman (she/her) Director/Adapter: LC (2nd season with ISF) is a freelance theatre director, adapter, and educator based in Seattle who is happy to be back on Whidbey Island for the summer! Audiences might remember her adaptation of Jane Eyre which she directed at ISF in 2016. Recent directing credits include Animals Out of Paper and Letters of Suresh with ReAct Theatre and Pratidhwani in Seattle, Liz Duffy Adam’s play OR, (featuring Aphra Behn as a character!) with Theatre22 at Seattle Public Theater, A Christmas Carol (2021) at ACT Seattle, and her own adaptation of Alice in Wonderland with Theatre22 at Seattle’s Volunteer Park. Other Seattle directing credits include Water by the Spoonful, The Happiest Song Plays Last, The Revolutionists, Downstairs, Annapurna, and 5th of July with Theatre22. Additional Seattle credits include The Bells, The Elephant Man, A Small Fire, 4 Dogs and a Bone, Trevor, 26 Miles, Fellow Passengers and Bernie’s Apt as well as her own adaptations of Jane Eyre, Hard Times, Waxwings, and The Bunner Sisters. Her work has also been seen in Chicago, Washington, DC, Cincinnati, Atlanta, St. Louis, and at the Royal Manitoba Theatre Company in Canada. She has an MFA in directing from Northwestern University. Upcoming: the world premiere of Mrs. Loman is Leaving at ACT Seattle, opening in October.
